City of Spring, TX

Spring, Texas Electricity Information

We currently offer electricity rates and plans in Spring:

Near the beginning of the 1800s, people began moving into the area known as Spring.  In the mid-1800s, Spring became somewhat of an agriculture center, thanks to the various land grants inhabitants could purchase. These farmers were able to grow sugar cane, cotton and vegetables. As the railway started to expand, the town became a home base for many of the workers. As a result, new businesses like lumber companies began to establish themselves.

By 1910 the population of Spring had reached 300 and the town had grown to include two cotton gins, two steam saw and grist mills, several schools, three churches, and extensive track yard and a state bank. In 1980, the community created the Old Town Spring Association to help preserve the core of the original town, which tourists can visit today.

Energy Deregulation in Spring

There are many cities in Texas that are (energy) deregulated and Spring is one of them. Energy deregulation refers to the fact that electricity consumers have the option to choose their electricity company/ energy provider — also known as a REP (Retail Electricity Provider).

Overall, energy deregulation helps to introduce competition into the market. Instead of having utilities handle all steps and processes involved in getting electricity into homes and businesses, REP's can offer supply services. REP's need to offer these services at reasonable rates so that they can retain and attract customers. The reason for this is because if a customer is unhappy with their supply services, they always have the ability to switch to a new REP.

One of the major benefits to energy deregulation is that it can bring both residential and business consumers savings that they might not see elsewhere.
